End is Near for Qaddafi: Rebels Take Over Most of Libya

Libyan rebels control most of Libya’s oil production facilities, have taken over another town and are closing in on Tripoli [2], Muammar Qaddafi’s sole base, Israel National News reported Sunday.
Qaddafi continued to thump his version of events, charging that Libyan youth are being drugged to go on a rampage of “destruction and sabotage.” He continues to hold on to the capital of Tripoli, but the opposition has firm control of most of the oil production facilities in Africa’s richest oil country [3].
Virtually the entire world has turned against Qaddafi, with the Arab League, the United Nations Security Council [4] and Western powers demanding he end his slaughter of opponents and his 41-year-long rule. The Libyan delegation to the Arab League in Cairo has condemned Qaddafi for “heinous crimes against unarmed citizens.” The UK, which had been accused of freeing the Lockerbie bomber for an oil deal [5], has joined the condemnation […] The U.N. Anti-Gaddafi rebels take over city closest to Tripoli

Armed men opposed to the rule of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi are in control of the city of Zawiyah, about 30 miles west of the capital Tripoli, a Reuters reporter in the town said.
The red, green and black flag of Libya’s anti-Gaddafi rebellion was flying from a building in the centre of the town and a crowd of several hundred people was chanting “This is our revolution,” the reporter said.

Libya: Ex-minister chosen to head rebel government

A member of Benghazi city council says Libyan cities under rebel control appointed former Justice Minister Mustafa Abdel-Jalil to lead provisional government, YnetNews reported Sunday.

Abdel-Jalil recently resigned from Gaddafi’s government in protest of the brutal suppression of protests.
The ex-minister declared Saturday he will work to establish a provisional government to take over from the current dictatorship. A local newspaper report suggests that the future government will be established in Benghazi which has been under rebel control for several days. The transitional government “will lead for no more than three months, and then there will be fair elections and the people will choose their leader,” according to Mustafa Abdel Jalil, formerly a justice minister under Qaddafi.
Last week, the former justice minister told [8] Swedish newspaper Expressen that Gaddafi will commit suicide the way Adolf Hitler did at the end of World War II rather than surrender or flee.
“Gaddafi’s days are numbered. He will do what Hitler did – he will take his own life.”
